Espiral
como energia cósmica, sol, nascimento, morte e renascimento. Símbolo
de evolução e involução. Presente em muitas culturas, ao ser
associada à vida, está representada em muitas divindades femininas
do paleolítico.
Advento
é tempo de contemplação, de preparação, de espera pelo que virá
durante as festividades do Inverno. Tempo de procura.
Na
orientação Waldorf o cerimonial do Advento e do Inverno celebra-se
através de um ritual que tem como base uma espiral:
Evergreen
boughs are laid on the floor or ground to create a spiral. In the
center of the spiral is a lit candle. The room is darkened (or it is
nighttime if held outdoors) and each child takes a turn to walk the
spiral holding an unlit candle. As the child reaches the center, she
lights her candle from the center candle and then retraces her steps
out of the spiral. The child brings forth the Light as she walks
outward and chooses a place along the spiral to set her lit candle.
As child after child has a turn and more and more lit candles grace
the spiral, the room becomes increasingly filled with light. Nothing
formal is explained to the children; it is a lived experience that
takes place within them at a level beyond words.

A
liturgia celebra frequentemente a Virgem Maria como exemplo durante
esta época do Advento, designadamente as Igrejas Ortodoxas. E
curioso, ou não, a ligação da espiral/labirinto ao nascimento -
(...) the baby begins its birth journey in the center of the spiral,
which represents the womb, and during the course of labor, it follows
the rings in the spiral until it tumbles out. (Pam England, Labyrinth of Birth, p. X).
